Jane Levings MS LAPC
Jane Levings, MS, LAPC
Jane holds a Masters in Counseling from Mercer University. Jane works with adolescents and adults of all ages, specializing in personal development, life transitions, addiction, mood disorders, and parenting issues.
With Jane, you will identify the core values and attributes that define who you are and make the changes necessary to live a life aligned with the values of who you really are and who you want to become. Whether you are a teenager growing into independence, or an adult entering a new season of life, Jane’s goal is to help you understand your difficult feelings, limit behaviors you may have been using to escape those feelings and develop healthy habits and relationships so that you can live a fruitful, meaningful, well-managed life.
Jane works from an existential theoretical framework to help clients identify their purpose and uses the concrete tools of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help them take action in their lives. She also incorporates creative modalities such as writing and visual arts into her practice, as clients desire.
Prior to WholeHeart, Jane served as an intern at the Summit Wellness Center, an intensive outpatient substance use disorder recovery program. At Summit, Jane worked with clients one-on-one and led groups in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Creativity and Coping, and Healthy Relationships. Jane’s work in drug and alcohol addiction has expanded into an interest in social media and gaming overuse, as well. She works with clients to help them improve executive functioning and manage distractions.
Jane has a deep interest in art as therapy, as well. She has volunteered in the horticultural therapy program at Skyland Trail, taught creative writing courses at several colleges and is a trained portrait painter. She finds that expressive arts techniques such as writing and painting can often bring clients to new discoveries about themselves that were inaccessible through talk therapy alone.
Jane is a graduate of Pace Academy, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and the University of Virginia, where she earned her MFA in Creative Writing. She holds a masters in Counseling from Mercer University. Jane is an associate independent educational consultant to better help her adolescent clients and their parents find the right school fit. The parent of two teenagers, Jane understands the challenges and opportunities of raising children in intown Atlanta, and has helped her own children navigate several successful school transitions. Walking beside other parents and teens as they move toward independence is one of her greatest joys.
